We left Washington, DC at 8:30am Sunday, November 21st. After a short hop to Detroit, it was 13 hours to Tokyo and then 7 more to Bangkok. With our "short" layover in Tokyo unexpectedly extended for several hours while maintenance crews worked out issues with all eight of our plane's restrooms (thanks, Airbus!), we arrived at our hotel at 3am Tuesday Bangkok time (i.e., 3pm Monday EST) after 30 hours of traveling.
We're already almost three weeks into our trip, but for anyone who wants to keep track, here's our itinerary:
November 22-25 Bangkok, Thailand
November 25-27 Siem Reap, Cambodia
November 27-30 Hoi An, Vietnam
December 1-5 Hanoi and Halong Bay, Vietnam
December 5-8 Luang Prabang, Laos
December 8-12 Phuket, Thailand
December 12-15 Krabi, Thailand
December 15-20 Bali, Indonesia
December 20-21 Singapore
December 21-23 Hong Kong
December 23 Back to the States
A few pictures from the trip over--leaving DCA bright and early!
J working during our layover in Detroit (shocking, right?!)
Finding our gate in Tokyo. Hmmm...
Interesting KitKat flavors in Tokyo. If you can't tell from the pictures, the options are green tea, cherry blossom-green tea, wasabi, sweet potato, strawberry cheesecake, and annindoufu (which turns out is an almond Asian dessert.) Too bad we didn't have any yen or I would have had to try out a flavor or two!
(For those wondering why this post's pictures end in Tokyo, rest assured that you're better off not seeing the post-flight snaps taken on arrival in Bangkok -- 30+ hours of traveling doesn't look good on either of us!!)
xo,
J&J
