Day Three: Arriving in Siem Reap, Cambodia

We started our day with an early morning cab ride to the Bangkok airport.  As many of you know, I have been absolutely terrified of flying for a long time--I'm usually white knuckled the entire flight. This trip, however, has given me a new perspective:  the cab ride to the airport is really the tricky part!  I think our driver was upset when we insisted on the meter instead of his proposed flat rate (about 50% higher than the ultimate metered price).  Though the speed limit was 80 km/h (i.e., 50 mph), he cruised at 150 km/h (i.e., 90+ mph) while weaving in and out of traffic.  I finally asked him to slow down; he grudgingly eased back to 120 km/h.  Awesome.


Thankfully, we made it safely to the airport and enjoyed an uneventful 40 minute hop to Siem Reap on Bangkok Airways.  We were even served breakfast; is it just me, or do flight attendants back home barely leave their seats on a flight that short?

Siem Reap airport:

Cambodia was hot and humid!  It's winter here also, but everyone was talking about how unusually warm it was--in the mid-90's most days we were here!


We stayed at the Sojourn (actually located in a tiny village just outside of Siem Reap) and LOVED it.  The place was small, with only 8 or so bungalows.

Believe it or not, all of my clothes/shoes/toiletries/etc. are in the one bag in the picture below!  (Anyone who knows me and my tendancy to bring everything I own on trips will know what a tremendous feat that is!)
